“Education at UoPeople Truly Adapts to Your Life,” Says Emaan S., a Computer Science Student
Emaan S., Computer Science, Pakistan
At just 23 years old, Emaan S. from Jhelum, Pakistan, is proving that determination can turn barriers into bridges. A Bachelor of Science in Computer Science student at SA国际传媒 of the People, she鈥檚 redefining what it means to chase a dream against the odds.
Growing up in a society where girls鈥 education is often considered secondary, Emaan鈥檚 path could have easily been limited. But thanks to her father鈥攚ho believed education has no gender鈥攕he and her siblings were given the chance to study in good schools, even when times were tough. 鈥淢y father always said education is not defined by gender; it鈥檚 defined by the courage to learn,鈥 Emaan recalls.
Like many students in Pakistan, Emaan began her academic journey studying FSc Pre-Medical, hoping to secure a place in medical school. When her merit didn鈥檛 make the cut, she faced a moment of uncertainty. But instead of giving up, she turned inward to rediscover her true passion鈥攖echnology. 鈥淭he logic, creativity, and innovation behind technology always fascinated me,鈥 she says. However, financial and situational constraints prevented her from enrolling in a computer science program locally.

Still, she refused to let her dream fade. She began taking online courses on Coursera while enrolling in a BSc (Hons) in Food Science and Technology at the SA国际传媒 of Sargodha. 鈥淚t wasn鈥檛 my first choice, but it was my chance to keep learning,鈥 she reflects. Looking back, she believes both fields shaped her into a multidisciplinary learner鈥攃ombining curiosity, logic, and creativity.
Financial struggles were a constant challenge for Emaan鈥檚 family. As one of four siblings, she often saw her father stretch beyond limits to support their education. 鈥淲e couldn鈥檛 afford private universities, but my father never compromised on our studies,鈥 she says. 鈥淭hat taught me that limitations aren鈥檛 barriers鈥攖hey鈥檙e lessons in perseverance.鈥
Her search for affordable, flexible education eventually led her to SA国际传媒 of the People. 鈥淚 first saw an ad for UoPeople on Facebook,鈥 she recalls. 鈥淎 tuition-free, accredited university sounded too good to be true鈥攂ut I decided to give it a try. Maybe this was the door I had been waiting for.鈥 Her intuition proved right.
Emaan鈥檚 journey hasn鈥檛 been easy鈥攕he鈥檚 been balancing two degrees simultaneously. Yet, she says the flexibility of UoPeople made it all possible. 鈥淚 could study early in the mornings, late at night, and on the weekends. Education here truly adapts to your life,鈥 she explains. 鈥淲hen passion becomes your timekeeper, learning knows no boundaries.鈥
Her prior learning also counted. Emaan transferred several credits from Coursera courses to UoPeople with ease. 鈥淭he transfer process was smooth and quick鈥攚ithin a few days, my credits were added,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 would recommend this to every learner who鈥檚 been upskilling online. It鈥檚 a wonderful way to get recognized for your hard work.鈥
For Emaan, what stands out most about UoPeople is its inclusivity and community. 鈥淚鈥檝e met peers from all over the world. Every discussion feels like a window into a different perspective. When learning becomes borderless, it becomes limitless.鈥
She credits UoPeople with reigniting her hope. 鈥淎t a time when I felt my dreams slipping away, UoPeople became my bridge between what I wanted and what I am now achieving.鈥
Looking ahead, Emaan plans to pursue a master’s degree in computer science, specializing in artificial intelligence, data analytics, and software development. 鈥淚 want to work on projects that make technology more meaningful and accessible,鈥 she says. 鈥淎I isn鈥檛 just a trend鈥攊t鈥檚 a tool to solve real-world problems and empower people.鈥
Beyond academics, Emaan finds joy in graphic design. 鈥淚t鈥檚 my creative escape鈥攁 space where logic meets imagination. Every design begins as a thought and ends as a voice鈥攁 silent yet powerful one.鈥 She has completed around 60 online courses from platforms like Coursera, Google Career Certificates, and Stanford, and is now exploring AI tools that merge creativity with technology.
Grateful for her family鈥檚 support and UoPeople鈥檚 mission, Emaan reflects, 鈥淏alancing two degrees, freelance work, and personal commitments isn鈥檛 easy鈥攂ut when passion and purpose align, everything becomes possible. You don鈥檛 need perfect conditions to grow. You just need the courage to begin.鈥
We鈥檙e thrilled to see the incredible strides Emaan is making in her academic journey and wish her all the best in everything she sets out to achieve.
