Foster Believes the Computer Science Program at UoPeople is Designed for Real People with Real Lives

Based out of Accra, Ghana, Foster B. is earninga Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at SAʴý. He grew up in a modest, close-knit family where hard work, respect, and education were strongly emphasized. His early education took place in public schools, where resources were limited, but his curiosity knew no bounds. Although his family didn’t have much, they had big dreams. Foster learned from his parents to value education deeply. He went on to earn a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting with Computing from Kumasi Technical SAʴý and continued his studies with a bachelor’s in business administration (Accounting) at KNUST.
Because of constant financial hardships, Foster has always had to balance work, education, and family responsibilities simultaneously. “At one point, I paused formal education just to work and save. I’ve worked as an internal audit assistant and accountant over the last few years. I now work asa data analyst—all while studying and self-teaching new skills like programming, Power BI, and data science. Internet access, expensive educational platforms, and time constraints have been big hurdles on my path. Myfaith, perseverance, and self-discipline have carried me through, thankfully,” he shares.
How did Foster discover UoPeople? I discovered UoPeople through an online forum where people were discussing affordable and flexible education options. I was skeptical at first—it almost seemed too good to be true. But the more I researched, the more convinced I was. UoPeople’s mission spoke to me: making quality education accessible for everyone, regardless of their financial background. It turned out to be an ideal option for someone like me—ambitious, yet constrained. I love studying here because I can learn at my own pace. I also love being a part of theglobal student community UoPeople has fostered.”
Foster transferred credits from his previous studies in Ghana and recommends transferring credits to all prospective students. “The process was smooth, and I found the university very accommodating. They evaluated my transcripts quickly and transparently. I’d 100% recommend it to others, especially those who already have prior qualifications and want to continue without starting over.”
Foster balances a full-time job as an Accounts Officer and Data Analyst, tutors in Power BI, assists in running a local food business with his partner, and studies full-time at UoPeople. He relies on calendars, to-do lists, and daily motivation to keep everything on track. He meticulously plans each hour and ensures to take breaks when needed. “My ‘why’ is bigger than any moment of tiredness—so I keep showing up, day after day.”
Foster strongly believes his program is designed for real people with real lives. He feels UoPeople’s learning model fosters independence and critical thinking in students like him. “The curriculum is rigorous and relevant—I’ve applied so much of what I’ve learned in real-life work scenarios already. Peer reviews, discussion forums, and interactions with peers keep us all engaged and supported in our educational journey,” he adds.
He aspires to become a leading tech-driven financial analyst, with dreams of launching a firm that combines financial services and data analytics to support small businesses in Africa. His passion for teaching and mentoring shines through, as he already tutors in Power BI and financial literacy. Looking ahead, he envisions creating a tech solution that simplifies accounting and reconciliation for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly in places like Ghana.
When he’s not immersed in work or studies, Foster enjoys writing poetry, reading biographies, watching financial documentaries, and helping his girlfriend with her local restaurant venture. “It gives me joy to help others see possibilities they didn’t think existed.”
