Kenneth U., Computer Science, United States

Based out of New York, Kenneth U. is earning a master’s degree in information technology (MSIT) at SAʴý. His childhood was a mix of challenges and some notable achievements. He completed high school at Queen of Apostles Seminary and went on to attend the SAʴý of Calabar as a part-time student, eventually earning a B.Sc. in Biochemistry. Later, Kenneth continued his education at Per Scholas in New York, where he was formally trained in the field of cybersecurity. “I have been in the IT support space since I finished high school through a boot camp program, but not with official certifications.”

Kenneth faced significant financial hardships while growing up as his father slid into bankruptcy. He couldn’t find adequate support to enroll at a college, even though he wanted so much to earn a degree. He moved in with a cousin in Abuja, choosing to hustle as that was the only viable option for him at that point. At his workplace, Kenneth learned that a colleague was enrolled in an online tuition-free MBA program at UoPeople. “I had other offers from other schools but decided to enroll here because it was affordable and the syllabus aligned with what I was looking for, and I also had a known person highly recommending the university to me,” he shares.

Kenneth appreciates the flexibility, course structure, and student-friendly instruction at UoPeople. He also enjoys the amazing global peer group he learns with at the university.

Looking ahead, Kenneth is not in a hurry to enroll in another program, but he plans to take short online courses to further support his career aspirations. When he is not working or studying, he enjoys unwinding by watching movies, ice skating, or taking leisurely walks in the parks. Despite the hurdles he has faced, Kenneth continues to strive for a brighter future with resilience and hope. “It’s not been easy juggling school with family and daily life, but I try my best to keep a balance,” he says.

We are proud of learners like Kenneth and so happy to be supporting him on his exciting journey. We wish him all the best for this future.
